Services
We provide individual, caregiver-child, and/or family therapy. Please schedule an initial intake session with us to discuss your needs and goals. We’ll then partner together to make a plan and establish a schedule for ongoing sessions. Common areas of focus for psychotherapy include; coping and adjustment to diagnosis, burnout and diabetes distress, co-occurring anxiety/depression, caregiver-child conflict around management, co-parenting, developmental expectations, peer and social challenges.
Group sessions may be offered based on client interest. Please let us know if this is something you are interested in.

We specialize in educating and empowering students and families in school and childcare settings regarding their rights and the accommodations they are entitled to receive with a diagnosis of diabetes. Alongside families, we communicate with staff and administrators, guiding the 504 plan process and supporting health plan implementation. We routinely review and edit 504 plan drafts (IEP if applicable), participate in care plan meetings, and refer to community partners for diabetes management training. For those experiencing persistent and ongoing discrimination related to diabetes in a school or childcare setting, we can assist with the formal complaint process.
Challenges with regard to management of diabetes, or care of a minor with diabetes, can carry over to the workplace setting. We provide information and guidance regarding rights and accommodations in these instances.

A new diagnosis of diabetes goes far beyond learning the medical care required. We’ve met with countless newly diagnosed families and provided a framework for understanding and approaching this life-altering diagnosis. Areas discussed typically include, but are not limited to; coping/adjustment, developmentally appropriate explanations, management expectations, sibling role, parent self-care, school and childcare rights, mobilizing support, community resources, and insurance options and navigation. With this general information and supportive intervention, there is always the option to schedule psychotherapy for ongoing support at that time, or anytime in the future.
This is typically one session and is similar to the new diagnosis content described above. We recognize that many families have not had the benefit of receiving such information during their time living with T1D, and know how impactful it can be at any stage. We take in to consideration your individual experiences and help to identify areas where we can increase knowledge and support.
The diabetes community is strong and large! As part of Blue Branch’s commitment to providing every opportunity to build your network of support, we will ensure that you are aware of all available resources. We provide education and information regarding insurance options as well, in particular, regarding Children’s Special Healthcare Services (CSHCS), which is available to every child (0-26) in MI and benefits nearly all families at age 18+.
